- Basically..... Wireless Access Point, used to allow access to a network wirelessly and wireless adapter used to connect to a wireless access point
- A router-Main product that connect you to the internet and other computers. Wireless adapter- part in each computer that connects to the router.
- Well from its basic: Wireless adapter ( Could be PCI, USB, or PCMCIA ( laptop) ) that connects to available Wireless Access Points.( WAP's) Sometimes the WAP's dont have the router built in like in any of the Linksys or Dlink home products. so they then have to plug in to a network switch or hub. but if yoou like most home users your WAP will also be a Wireless Router that interfaces your DSL or Cable ISP. Sorry if this is more basic than what you need. I couldn't tell what exactly you wanted to know based on the question.
- The Wireless Router which is the small box that you hook up to your internet modem. The router will have extra ports for hooking up a cable that goes to your computer and any other devices that need to have a direct connection... usually up to four ports. The Router will send out the signal that the other devices will use. The next part is either an internal wireless networking card or an external wireless receiver. These vary in a few different ways. Normally an internal card will not have the receiving range that an external one will, and you would have to open your computer up and install one if the computer didn't already have one. Either receiver works the same way however, this is the part that is connect to the computer you want to access your network from. The receiver is what communicates with your router allowing access to your network, the internet, etc. If you're planning on setting up your own network I would buy the router and receiver online as you will usually get them cheaper than at the local Best Buy. Amazon and NewEgg are both good sites to get the router and receivers from.
- Also to add to what the above guys has said is, You need to know the size of the wireless network you are deploying. for example...if you re deploying a wire network, you must first ascertain the number of nodes you needed, that will determine the carton of cables and connector, trucking and switches and other tools you might need in getting that done. deploying an enterprise wireless network is quite different from deploying a wireless network in a small office with 20-30 computer nodes. so you must be able to ascertain the size of your wireless network.
