Help with Networking

Can you help me with a home networking problem?

Ok so I had 2 computers connected by wires through a router using a home network. Every thing was fine. Then I said I wanted to move one of the computers so I went wireless. One computer is still hooked up to the back of the new wireless router but the other computer now has a wireless network card and is connecting through wireless to the network. It isn't working. When I click on the icon for the other computer it says a message like "this computer is not accessible." What can i do? the internet works both wired and wireless

  1. reinstall the driver
  2. it sounds like you didn't configure the wireless router, insert the CD into the wired computer and configure it correctly... then use that configuration to reconfigure the wireless connection on the non-wired computer.
  3. have you connected the wireless connection up by using the wireless key supplied on the router??? to the computer with the card.
  4. OK, is the router connected to a broadband internet connection that's being shared by both PC's? If so, then make sure the wireless PC can get out to the internet. That's the first priority, because if that works, then we know the PC is connecting wirelessly to the router just fine. Also, make a note of its IP address. It should be in the 192.168.x.x range. The other computer hasn't changed from your description, so you shouldn't have to troubleshoot that. Instead, ping the IP address of the computer you're trying to connect to. Make sure you're getting a reply.
  5. Have you set up file sharing for the new wireless connection?
  6. try running the install cd, if it still doesn't work you might have to go in and reset up the network.
  7. The icon in the Network Neighborhood refers to the same computer, but via the old wired connection. It does not know to go through wireless connection just because you just connect differently; Internet and IP is something else entirely but the Network N. icon need to be deleted and re-create from scratch.
